We featured Caitlin’s Campaign in our podcast episode #15 where Caitlin’s mum Sharron explains how it started from her daughter Caitlin’s death when she was tragically killed whilst being a passenger of a car driven by a young driver who had recently passed her driving test and also lost her life when her car crashed.
Please do listen to the full episode which can be found by searching the bereaved parents club on any podcast platform and then choose episode 15: Caitlins Campaign. Or visit our episode listing here on our website – Caitlins Campaign.
I recently caught up with Sharron to find out how her campaign is progressing and she kindly shared the information below:
Sharron was invited on the 28th July to meet with the Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander at the Department for Transport in London offices and was able to speak about her campaigning for the graduated driving license. As the Government are preparing to release a Road Safety Strategy – the first in over a decade. Sharron is hoping that Heidi took her points on board and will look to include young driver safety in the strategy. We wait to hear more on this when its released..
There is now a web site dedicated in protecting young drivers and saving lives. Its called protectyoungdrivers.com – providing awareness of the need for the graduated driving license and a safer start to driving. Please do check this out and the ways you can get involved to support this campaign.
Sharron was recently interviewed on Sky News representing the campaign group Forget-Me-Not Families Uniting, made up of those who’ve lost loved ones in car crashes, who have lobbied the government to bring in tougher laws for new drivers and bring out the graduated driving license. You can listen to the interview below or read the full news article here.
Sharron was interviewed by BBC Breakfast representing the Forgetmenot families campaigning for the graduated driving license. It covers footage of the first physical meeting of this group in a poignant walk and in support for safer roads and driving and the graduated driving license. Please take time to watch the video below or view the full news article Graduated Driving Licensing – BBC Breakfast June 2024 – YouTube.
If you have lost a loved one to a road traffic accident and would like to connect with the forgetmenot families they have a dedicated facebook group here.
