Child Loss Support For Parents, Grandparents and Legal Guardians

The Compassionate Friends offer a comprehensive range of peer-led support and advice to bereaved parents in the UK, including a helpline at 0345 123 2304.

Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals when a child of any age has died or is dying and when a child is bereaved. It offers support for adults and bereaved children and young people up to the age of 25.

The Child Death Helpline providing a dedicated helpline that offers support to anyone affected by the death of a child of any age, under any circumstances, however recent or long ago. Please call Freephone 0800 282 986 or 0808 800 6019 or email contact@childdeathhelpline.org for times the helpline is available to call.

A Child of Mine offers practical information and guidance after the death of a child. Ensuring professional bereavement services are improved through the experience of other bereaved families. Designing and delivering more direct services to families after the death of a child, including financial assistance, support and practical advice.

Teddy’s Wish help bereaved parents and families through care packages and fully funded counselling.

Once Upon a Smile enabling families to adjust to a new life without their loved one.

Muslim Bereavement Support Service a non-profit organisation serving the Muslim community by supporting bereaved mothers who have lost a child at any stage.

Bereaved Parent Supportoffers resources, telephone befriending and events to help those who have lost a son or daughter of any age, in any circumstance.

The Good Grief Project offers active grief weekend retreats and support for parents and adult siblings.

Cardiac Risk In The Young (CRY) provides bereavement support to families who have lost a child by sudden young adult cardiac death.  They have a dedicated facebook group for parents.

SUDC UK – provides support to families who have lost a child through sudden unexplained death in childhood for a child between 1 to 18 years old.

SLOW – Surviving the loss of your world. Providing support after the devastating loss of your child or sibling. Online support groups and physical meet-ups in the London area.

Children of Jannah support bereaved parents who experience baby loss and child loss, holding at their core the Muslim belief that all children who die enter Jannah.

Care for the Family Helping parents to face the future when an only child has died.

Damali Beautiful Vision CIC is a community interest company supporting Global Majority community members and their families in their navigation of bereavement due to the sudden loss of a young child and or a young adult. 

For Dads

Dad Matters is an organisation aimed at supporting Dad’s via links to charities and other support groups. It helps Dads with all aspects being a dad but it has a strong focus on baby loss and miscarriage. Insta : @dadmattersuk

Dads still standing podcast offers a podcast and support for Dads following the loss of a child.

The Compassionate Friends offer an online support group for Dads and a day event for Dads as well as offering separate support group sessions on the retreats for Dads.

Menfulness is a local York based charity that provides a safe space for men to meet up and talk and provides counselling services.

Mentell is a UK charity that provides men’s groups for males aged 18+ to talk in a safe and confidential space, free from advice and judgement.

Strong Men supports men following bereavement. Grief can cause severe emotional and physical health conditions which are often overlooked and even ignored, especially in men.

Angels United Manchester based peer to peer bereavement support group, football club & family co-founded by a group of dad’s that all have one thing in common, they have all suffered the heartbreak and devastation of losing a child at any stage of life.

Baby Loss Support

SANDS is dedicated to providing emotional support and information right from the early hours after a baby’s death, through to the weeks, months and years ahead. Sands supports anyone affected by the death of a baby. Helpline is 0808 164 3332.

The Compassionate Friends offers peer support for bereaved parents and their families. Please note: support is predominantly for parents who have lost a baby of a few months old rather than loss to miscarriage, stillbirth or in the early weeks of life.

Petals is a baby loss counselling charity, offering free specialist counselling to women and partners who suffer psychological distress from trauma and grief related to pregnancy or baby loss.

Aching Arms offer support to recently and longer ago bereaved parents after a loss during pregnancy, birth, or infancy.

Making it to Motherhood.  Friends Maya and Zinnia started a podcast series after both experiencing baby loss.  The podcast addresses grief and loss in a frank and honest way and you can listen to the podcast through AppleSpotify or Google.

Lullaby Trust provides expert advice on safer sleep for babies, emotional support for bereaved families and raises awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Twins Trust Bereavement Service offers support, community and information to parents who have experienced the death of a baby or child from a multiple pregnancy. They offer support via their befriending service and via their closed Facebook bereavement support group.

The Miscarriage Association offers support to anyone affected by the loss of a baby in early pregnancy. They provide a network of support groups and telephone contacts throughout the UK.

Fertility Network UK provides advice and support for people dealing with infertility problems and/or facing a life without children.

Tommy’s runs a general support group on Facebook for those who have suffered miscarriage, ectopic or molar pregnancy, stillbirth, loss after premature birth, neonatal death or termination for medical reasons. They also run a pregnancy and parenting after loss support group.

The Worst Girl Gang Podcast is from Laura and Bex who having been through pregnancy loss and miscarriage themselves set up the Worst Girl Gang Ever (TWGGE) to break the taboo around baby loss and create a supportive community for bereaved parents.

Molar Pregnancy Support setup by Naomi and Heidi who both experienced molar pregnancy and encountered difficulties in finding the necessary information and support to navigate this experience. In an effort to assist others going through similar situations, Heidi established the Instagram account @molarpregnancysupport, while Naomi created @mypartialmolar. Their shared goal is to increase awareness about molar pregnancy and eventually transform their efforts into a charitable organisation known as @molarpregnancy.uk.

The Legacy of Leo where Jess shares the story of her son who was stillborn in 2016, and what followed his birth. She is passionate about raising awareness, supporting others and sharing the honest truth of fertility treatment, baby loss, stillbirth, miscarriage and pregnancy after loss.

Time to Talk TFMR podcast is presented by Hayley and Catherine. They speak to parents who have made the heartbreaking decision to terminate a pregnancy for medical reasons and share stories and information on their Instagram.

Whitney Blacksmith is a certified psychotherapist who openly shares her personal journey of miscarriage. Her deep commitment lies in providing support to fellow Black women who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss. Whitney has also organised miscarriage support gatherings exclusively for Black women.

Ebony Bonds on Instagram. Ebony Bonds Bereavement Peer Support is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing space for families who have experienced the heart-breaking loss of a baby.

 

Loss By Suicide 

SoBS offers peer-led support to adults impacted by suicide loss, and operates a national helpline at 0300 111 5065

Winston’s Wish offer specialist suicide bereavement support for children, young people and families following a death through suicide.

The Compassionate Friends offer a dedicated facebook support groups, online and in certain areas face to face groups for parents. They provide an annual retreat for parents bereaved by suicide.

Facing the Future support groups developed by Samaritans & Cruse Bereavement Care to support those bereaved by suicide.

Shining a Light on Suicide is a Greater Manchester Service providing support whether you have lost someone to suicide or you need help with what you are going through.

Samaritans provide a 24 hour helpline, 365 days a year. You can call 116 123.

Suicide Bereavement UK conducts suicide bereavement research, provides consultancy on postvention, and evaluated training. They have a dedicated facebook page.

Voilet Project is a West Midlands-based charity that aims to create a world where suicide is no longer considered an option and there are no communities affected by suicide. They provide support for those affected by suicide.

Greater Manchester Bereavement Service – supports those who are bereaved by suicide and those who are concerned that someone they know may be thinking of suicide.

Loss By Violent Death

SAMM National SAMM provides a wide range of peer support services to people bereaved by murder and manslaughter.

Victim Support an independent charity dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales.

Escaping Victimhood  a charity providing unique, supportive residential workshops for people whose lives have been disrupted by the trauma of serious crime.  We currently specialise in those bereaved by murder and manslaughter.

Loss By Road Traffic Incident

Brake Helpline  a free support service for people bereaved and seriously injured by road crashes.

Road Victims Trust supports people who have been affected by the grief and trauma of a road death or a serious injury or life changing injury collisions.

SCARD offer year-round support to the families and friends of those lost in road related accidents.

Graduated Driving License campaign providing you with information on this campaign.

Road Peace the National Charity for Road Crash Victims.

Forget-me-not Families Uniting private Facebook group which is a group of parents and families bereaved through road crashes, all calling on the Government to implement this life saving law, Graduated Driving Licensing for young novice drivers. 

 

Sibling Support Organisations

At A Loss a national bereavement signposting website, including training on how to talk to a young person about bereavement.

Let’s Talk About Loss provides a safe space for 18-35 year olds to talk about grief, run meets ups across UK.

Together for Short Lives support for bereaved families and professionals working to support children.

Winston’s Wish helps children rebuild their lives after the death of a sibling, enabling them to face the future with confidence and hope.

The Good Grief Project offers active grief weekend retreats and support for parents and adult siblings.

The Compassionate Friends provide support, meetings and retreats for adult siblings navigating through the loss of a brother or sister.

Sibling Support helps young people whose brother or sister has died. The site is also filled with help for parents, professionals and others who want to support siblings.

NHS England Trust Directory provides a UK wide listing of their organisations under NHS England.

Mind an adult mental health support charity aiming to support and achieve better mental health.

Dying Matters campaign aims to widen the national conversation about death, dying and bereavement.

Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service (JBCS) offers confidential counselling to individuals, couples, children and families in the Jewish Community who are experiencing loss.

The Loss Foundation is the only UK charity dedicated solely to providing bereavement support following the loss of a loved one to cancer, whether that be spouses, family members, friends or colleagues.

Rehab 4 Addiction: UK Drug & Alcohol Rehab – Rehab 4 Addiction

Sue Ryder providing expert information and advice and practical issues after someone has died.

DrugFam provide support to families with a loved one’s addiction and they have a bereavement service.

Teenage Cancer Trust providing end of life support and bereavement services.

START is a Salford based mental health charity that uses creativity, connection and recovery interventions to help improve people’s lives.

PAPYRUS – prevention of young suicide is a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and promotion of positive mental health and emotional well-being in young people.
