Pauline Gallagher shares how this unique library has supported her since her son Joe died:
“Before Joe died I had read a lot of textbooks about many theories related to loss and grief ( this was as part of my job ).
After Joe died I realised that none of these theories & ‘head’ knowledge helped me navigate the new terrifying world I now lived in.
Finding the TCF library, having contact with Mary helped me in so many ways.
Mary choses books she thinks that I would find helpful ( she’s invariably right) plus she always writes a lovely letter giving a summary of each book.
Once I started reading parents own accounts of their children’s deaths I felt less alone. Reading parents stories reached me at an emotional level which is where healing can take place , and has helped me enormously.
Mary’s lovely warm manner, her interest in my Joe and her extensive knowledge of the hundreds of books in the library continues to help me, I always – so many years later – look forward to receiving my parcel of books. I can’t thank Mary enough, the service she runs has felt like a lifesaver to me.”
